Puerto Rico Mission Trip- Day 1

This is where Pastor Randy will be blogging each day of the Puerto Rico Mission Trip.

Well we made it.  We are in Puerto Rico!  We left Portland at 2:00 Sunday afternoon and arrived in San Juan Monday morning at 6:00 am.  The picture at the top of this post is most of the team following our commissioning service Sunday morning.  I can assure you we did not look that good on Monday morning after a full night of flying.

After our arrival in San Juan, we rented two 15 passenger vans and a mini van.  Though we got a bit lost, we arrived at Irradia Christian Center at around 9:30.  Many of the streets we traveled were steep and narrow and probably were not built with 15 passenger vans in mind.  I am sure three van loads of "Gringos" lost gave the locals something to laugh at.  Irradia will be our base of operations for the next nine days.  The final picture on this page is the view from the parking lot of the center.

Activities today consisted of orentation to the work which will start tomorrow in Loiza.  All of the work we will be doing will be related to Hurricane Maria damage.  Loiza is on the opposite side of the island from where the earthquake hit.

We also spent part of the day today power washing the Irradia parking lot as well as running around getting important last minute supplies- stuff to make our morning coffee.  Also much time was spent today catching up on sleep.  Overall it was a very relaxed day.

It will probably be the last one until the weekend.  Tomorrow we begin working on three different houses in Loiza.  We will be leaving the center at 7:30 for the hour drive to Loiza, and return to the center at about 4:00.  Just enough time to take showers and get cleaned up before our dinner.

Continue to keep the team in your prayers.  All of the people that we have met here have been great and gracious.  We are looking forward to the hope we can bring the families we are working with.

At the bottom of the page, it was my intent to give you opportunity to comment and ask questions.  We have not got that part of the blog working yet, but hope to soon.  In the meantime save up your questions and comments for when we get it to work.
