Feb. 26- Ch. 26

Jesus said of his disciples, “There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there’s another part that’s as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.”  I don’t know about anyone else, but too often I see this same kind of behavior in myself.  It sometimes is a struggle to keep that eagerness going.  I continue to pray that he will stoke the fire of the Holy Spirit in my life.

That is my prayer for myself, also, but also for all members of the body at Grace. The morning and evening praying and even the daily Matthew readings have become “routine” and I’ve been seeking for that instead to be renewal.

I take it that quote is from The Message, but I don’t recall seeing anything like that in Matthew. Did I miss it or is it somewhere else?

  2. Larry Martin says:

The woman did a good deed for Christ. It did not fit what was the idea of a good deed. The common idea was that it would have been much better to sell the oil and give the proceeds to the poor. Jesus said that what this woman did honored him. How often I have looked at the deeds of some others and thought that doing something else would have been a much better way to honor God. What a presumption on my part. I do not know the plan of God or the heart of the person doing the action. Most of my judgment is based on a worldly criteria. I need more to accept others honoring of God in their way rather than judging the actions.

Sharon, That is Eugene Petersen’s (The Message author) transliteration of “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
