Jan. 25- Ch. 25

In the parable of the three servants, it is interesting to me that the master was angry at the third servant for being lazy and wicked.  I get the lazy part, but where is the wicked part?  One possible explanation is laziness, in God’s eyes, equates to wickedness.  If we are not doing the work God expects of us, then we are wicked.  Maybe that is why he is so hard on th goats in the parable of the sheep and goats.  The goats knew what the master wanted and they were just lazy and didn’t do it.  Or maybe it was too tough for them…took them out of their comfort zone.  Something for us all to think about.

I am having difficulty picturing the loving God and personable Jesus written about in “The Shack” with the Jesus pictured in Mathew 25. Frankly, I am frightened that if I do not follow the expectations of those in the parables, I will be one of the useless servants cast into utter darkness, where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” I know I do not do enough to serve others and bring people to Christ.

  2. Randy says:

Sandy, That is where the atonement of Christ comes in. God knew and knows we would fall short of expectation. The death and resurrection of Christ makes up for those shortcomings if we put our trust and faith in him.

  3. Shannon Hastings says:

There is the lazy part but also I see the lack of trust. “You knew that I reap where I did not sow” We are afraid to do our part because we fear the consequence. We need to go ahead and leave the results to God. How ever I also identify with the third servant. I also need to get out of my comfort zone.

I have one thing to say about sheep and goats. Being around both growing up, sheep tend to be gentle and more yielding, where goats tend to be headstrong and go the opposite way you are trying to get them to go. I think Jesus knew this as true for them as well as us. Which one do you want to be?
