The thing I like about Peter is the writers of the Gospels let us in on his personality more than any other disciple. I think that is why I can identify with so many of his reactions to things– both good and bad. In this chapter Peter asks a question that most of us have asked or at least thought– What’s in it for me? It is a selfish question, but we all ask it. And notice Jesus doesn’t rebuke him for asking. He gives him a straight answer, which may in fact be harder to take than a rebuke– Many who are last will be first, and many who are first will be last.
