I noticed for the first time this morning that the first few verses of this chapter have many of the same concepts in it as Jesus’ prayer for his followers in John 17.
John succinctly and beautifully lays out the message God sent with his Son, Jesus Christ. I understood today why John said “We write this to make our joy complete.” He had fellowship with the Father and the Son and with those to whom he wrote. But his joy would not be complete without them also having fellowship with the Father and the Son and was the reason he wrote.
