August 28- 3 John

I was drawn to v. 12 this morning, “Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone—and even by the truth itself.”  The phrase “by the truth itself” intrigues me.  I wonder if John had some special revelation about Demetrius.

Here again The Message gives at least one completely different interpretation from the NIV. The Message says that Diotrephes actually throws out the itinerant brothers that come seeking the church’s hospitality. The NIV says that he stops others in the church from welcoming the itinerant brothers and throws the church members out of the church. It’s a small difference in this case, but it puts a different slant on Diotrephes actions.
