August 25- 1 John 4

Picking up again on the concept of the antichrist.  John uses the term “spirit of the antichrist.”  I wonder if this is a term John uses speaking of Satan.  As I think about it, he is THE antichrist, and those who are guided by his spirit become antichrists.  I would have to think that through, but at first blush I think it will fly.

Since I struggle with acting in love the same toward everyone, I was really struck by the directness of The Message at the end of this chapter: Speaking of the person who says they love God, but hates his brother or sister: “If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.” I have been trying to separate the fact that I don’t like someone or don’t like being around them, from the love that I must SHOW them–understanding that love is an action, not a feeling. Boy, that’s hard sometimes!
