August 24- 1 John 3

v. 9- “No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them…”  We are who we are- looks-wise, personality-wise- because of the seeds of our parents.  We carry part of them in us.  When we become- if we truly become children of God- then His seed is in us.  And that seed is the desire to avoid sin.  It is impossible to have the seed of God within us and have the desire to keep sinning.  Don’t get me wrong, children of God still sin, but it is something we do not desire, and in fact when it happens, we are abhorred by it.

One Response to August 24- 1 John 3

  1. Sharon Owen says:

I was affected this morning by the last two sentences of this paragraph from The Message: “…let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love. This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us that we do ourselves.”

Self-doubt is very “debilitating”–a good term.
