June 27- 2 John

vv 10-11- “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.”  Based on these verses, I wonder if someone in the community had already unknowingly taken in one of these teachers John is warning them about.  Or is this just a warning that they are out there and have been to other communities.

One Response to June 27- 2 John

The last part of verse 6 jumped out at me today: “As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” What does “walk in love” mean? That was the first thing. Then I thought, I wonder what it meant to them? I think, when I see those words, that it means I’m to love my brother, including all those with whom I come into contact–this being an active thing like Mother Theresa. However, to them it may have meant specifically following Christ’s dictates, or working humbly in the church or giving to the poor. I agree that it means all those things, but what comes to mind now and what came to mind then might have been very different.
