Oct. 28- Ch. 28

The cover up of the resurrection didn’t take long to get started.  Matthew notes in verse 11, “While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.”  The cover up began as the womwn headed to tell the disciples.

Today I learned that Jesus’ mother Mary was not at the tomb–at least not in Matthew. I guess there were always too many Marys for me to figure out which ones it actually was. A tribute to not paying close attention, which is the reason that we have been reading this same book all year, right?

in verse 18 Jesus states “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” I want to stress the importance of this and the problems it causes us humans. Something good happens and we do not have a hard time saying it was because of God. God had the power and authority to make it happen. Something bad happens and there the problem arises. God had the power to prevent it from happening. Jesus could have intervened and prevented that child from getting cancer. Could Jesus have prevented one from losing their job? Could Jesus have prevented a war? Could Jesus have prevented a famine? It states all authority has been given to Jesus. If Jesus has all authority why does Jesus allow bad things to happen to innocents and good people? The question is why does Jesus not exercise authority and power in a way that I think is right.
