Aug. 26- Ch.26

When Jesus was before the high priest, he never made any direct claims about himself. This exchange is what led the high priest to call Jesus a blasphemer: The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
“You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
In his statement Jesus did not indicate he was talking about himself, even though we now know he was.

Jesus in verse 27 took the cup and gave thanks. He than gave it to the disciples and gave it to them saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” In earlier verses He showed Judas that he knew that Judas was going to betray him. He still gave Judas the cup and told him to drink from it. It gives me hope because I know even though I fall short and often do follow through on the things I feel that Jesus is calling me to do, that cup is for me to.

I am confused about what day of the Passover or non-Passover the Last Supper fell on. I know it was Thursday night and he was crucified on Friday afternoon, but the Jews didn’t want to do it during Passover Week. I am thoroughly confused on this issue. Also, he states that he will be 3 days and 3 nights in the tomb before resurrection and no way I count this does that work. Any help here?

The Passover is one 24 hour period…from sundown to sundown. On the day the Passover ends, the Feast of Unleavened Bread begins. I think it was during the Passover celebration that the religious leaders didn’t want to arrest Jesus, however they still seemed to violate that, because he was arrested and crucified on the Passover. And the 3 days and 3 nights thing is an issue that a lot of folks have wrestled with.
