I am not sure, but I think this is the only place Jesus ever claims to be “Lord and teacher.”
The raising of Lazarus seems to have been a turning point in people’s belief about Jesus. This chapter mentions 2 or 3 times that many believed in Jesus because of what happened to Lazarus.
I think it is interesting that when Jesus tells Martha that he is the resurrection and the life she immediately understands that he is talking about himself as the Messiah.
At the end of this chapter John writes, “And in that place many believed in Jesus.” John doesn’t say what Jesus did to bring about that belief, but whatever he did, it made an impact!
