Grace Baptist Church Music/Worship Leader

Grace Baptist Church seeks a Music/Worship Leader to provide leadership and direction in rendering praise to God through music.  We have a largely contemporary style of worship with drums, guitars and lots of modern worship music.

We are a congregation of the American Baptist Churches, USA, located in the Montavilla neighborhood of Southeast Portland. God’s vision for Grace Baptist Church is to engage in Christ-centered discipleship and worship to equip people for, and support them in, ministry in the Montavilla neighborhood and in the communities where they work and live; while cultivating trusting, loving, accepting relationships.

The Worship/Music Minister is important to the life of Grace Baptist Church through providing leadership and direction in rendering praise to God through music.

Qualifications: The Worship/Music Minister must
1. have a personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ;
2. have a commitment to music as an act of worship, praise and adoration of God, and as an instructional tool for God’s people;
3. have solid musicianship. Be experienced and capable of leading a Worship Team, conducting a Choir, and congregational singing;
4. have the ability to work with others in the total ministry of the Church and to function as a leader of the music ministry;
5. have a working knowledge of a variety of vocal and instrumental Christian music;
6. have good guitar or keyboard skills.
It is desired for the Leader to have knowledge of and ability to operate a sound mixer board and auxiliary system components.

Responsibilities and Duties: The Worship/Music Minister
1. leads in the development and direction of the music program of the Church in conjunction with the Senior Pastor and the Lay Minister of Church Life, which may include seasonal programs;
2. as head musician, supervises the church musicians and any special music such as soloist, duets, quartets, etc.;
3. leads and rehearses the Worship Team and directs congregational singing. Is responsible for selection of worship and praise music for the worship services in cooperation with the Senior Pastor, and putting together presentation software of weekly music;
4. directs the Choir at its practices and presentations, and chooses the choir’s music;
5. will be responsible weekly to provide cue sheets to musicians and song selections to Church secretary, as appropriate;
6. provides a substitute, if needed, in the absence of a church musician;
7. shall maintain the music library;
8. reports to the Senior Pastor and participates in annual performance reviews;
9. attends staff meetings. Works closely with other staff. Presents annual goals and assessments of the music program;
10. stays current in musical publications and trends.

Hours and Salary:
This position is for a minimum of 10 hours per week. Salary is $550 per month.
